ISC focused on post-pandemic softwood picture

The Danish Timber Trade Federation, in association with the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry (EOS) and the ETTF, is hosting this year’s International Softwood Conference (ISC), which will gather experts from around the world to address the sector’s prospects in today’s challenging economic and geopolitical environment.

The 70th edition of the ISC takes place on 13 October 2022 in the lively and dynamic Danish capital, Copenhagen.

Due to the still uncertain international health situation and given the success of last year’s physical-online format, the conference will be held once again as a hybrid event. While this will allow people who cannot travel to the conference to attend remotely, the organizers hope to host as many delegates in person as possible.

As is customary, the ISC will be preceded by a cocktail reception in the early evening on October 12. The conference will then officially start the following morning at the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel and will be followed, as usual, by a gala dinner in what is being described as a ‘fascinating venue’. The organizers are also planning some extra programs, such as visits to sites of interest to the industry. More information on these will follow in coming months.

The conference will offer delegates the opportunity to deeply scrutinize trends in the timber market, focusing on facts and figures for softwood production and consumption in key markets worldwide.

The pandemic has profoundly changed the behaviour of consumers, which in turn has had a major impact on the business of timber traders and sawmillers. Speakers will give their perspective on what the future holds as producers and traders navigate the ‘new normal’. Introduction of legislative measures to help tackle climate change and the effects that these might have on wood availability will also be an important focus of the ISC programme.

More information on the conference, including registration details will be announced soon.
