AEIM backs Galician pine promotion

Spanish Timber Trade Association AEIM and its members attended the Pine 24 symposium in Santiago de Compostela at the end of October, the event supporting development of the Galician pine sector.

The meeting was organised by the Galician pine industry body Fundación Arume and AEIM companies attending included Savia (FINSA), Maderas del Noroeste and Maderas Hermanos Castro. AEIM Secretary General Alberto Romero also took part. The aim of the symposium was to valorise the entire value chain of the Galician pine industry, said Mr Romero. It’s a material providing solutions to both faster home building and decarbonisation of construction and the wider economy. The event included presentations on the experiences of both developers and architects in timber construction.

Annual sawn pinaster pine output in Spain is around 1 million m3, of which 750,000m3 is produced in Galicia. Imports of sawn pinaster pine stand at around 200,000m3, mainly originating from Portugal and France, said Mr Romero. Obviously, this dependence on the timber from abroad could decrease with greater use of pine from Galicia and other areas of northern Spain.
